I want to share a bit of my journey in the hope that it brings you comfort. My daughter was born at 26 weeks weighing 1lb 7.2 oz. I was a college student at the time and the NICU became a place of uncertainty and overwhelming emotions. Watching her face challenges like breathing on her own and gaining weight tested my strength, but each milestone she achieved gave me hope.
The NICU staff were a blessing, especially for a young mom like me. I remember spending Christmas morning in the NICU when a doctor asked what I wanted for Christmas. I said I just wanted my baby to come home. Later that day, they told me, “Merry Christmas,” and I knew my wish had come true. I spent the night in the NICU, and my daughter came home the next day.
Through it all, I learned that even during the hardest times, there’s hope. If you’re facing setbacks or challenges, know that you’re not alone. Your baby is stronger than you know, and with the support of the incredible NICU team, you’ll get through this. Every step forward, no matter how small, is a victory. Keep holding on to hope.
Love,
Lucretia Gordon
