The Down Syndrome Network of Greater Greensboro is a group of parents who are committed to supporting one another, sharing important information, and advocating for the very best in school and community services for children with Down syndrome. This group, originally supported by a Parent Leadership Grant from the Family Support Network of Central Carolina, now uses funds raised from our annual Buddy Walk to provide a variety of services to families.
At birth:
- A member of our group visits families of new babies born at Women's Hospital of Greensboro to provide information and support
- Each family is presented with a Welcome Packet containing informational books, DVDs, and a resource directory
- Parent-to-parent matching service
- Assistance with transition to state Infant-Toddler program
The support continues as children grow. The Down Syndrome Network offers several recreational events each year for the whole family. Our annual Buddy Walk raises awareness and funding for the group, while bringing families together for a day of fun and friendship. Regularly scheduled "Moms' Nights Out" enable parents to take a break and share their experiences.
The Down Syndrome Network of Greater Greensboro receives ongoing support from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro's Genetic Counseling Program. Other affiliations include the National Down Syndrome Society; Band of Angels; and the National Down Syndrome Congress. Please click here to learn more about these organizations.
